Top Tier Matchup With LTU this Weekend

Week 6 Preview (#13 Lawrence Tech University, 5-1-0-0)

The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a much-needed Halloween break this past weekend and look towards this coming weekend with a pair of games against MCHC – East Rival Lawrence Tech.  The Blue Devils are currently ranked 13th in the country after the first ranking period and won the MCHC–East division last season.  Lawrence Tech is the first action the Grizzlies have had in MCHC – East play and will look to be a top-tier matchup in the ACHA DIII ranks this weekend.

Lawrence Tech has made great strides in the past few seasons and finished last year in the ACHA National Tournament semi-final with a loss to the National Champion Hope College.  The team is led by head coach Ken Gaffney and currently plays out of Redford Ice Arena.  Coach Stirling and his staff have struggled with LTU in past seasons, as the staff is 3-9-1-0 all-time against the Blue Devils.  The Blue Devils come into the weekend with Halloween as a break and a sweep of #33 Missouri State University.

In looking at LTU, the Blue Devils return key players who made a huge impact last season.  Returning fourth year forward #23 Luke Radu currently leads the balanced attack for the Blue Devils with 7 points in the 5 games so far.  Supporting Radu are forwards #34 Will Jentz, #8 Hudson Fisher, #15 Benjamin De Haas, and Nicholas Berrettini, who all have at least 5 points in the early portion of the season.  On defense, #25 Trevor Losier leads the team with 8 points in 6 games.  In goal for the Blue Devils is returning goalies #29 Tim Young and #31 Nolan Foster.  The two have combined for a 5-1 record and have played the bulk of the minutes this season.

The games for this weekend show the Golden Grizzlies at home this Friday with an 8:00 PM puck drop at Buffalo Wild Wings Arena.  The Grizzlies will return to Redford Ice Arena on Saturday for a 5:00 PM puck drop.

Other News and Notes

The first ranking period was released this past weekend, where the Golden Grizzlies are now ranked at #3 in the country.  The rankings will continue throughout the season on a bi-weekly basis until the final ranking period in February.  The next ranking period will be for all games played through 11/9, which will include the LTU weekend and will be announced on 11/14.  The top 16 teams with some automatic bids for league winners will make the tournament, which is hosted in St. Louis this season.
