Week 2 Preview (Miami of Ohio)
The regular season continues this coming weekend as the Golden Grizzlies (2-0-0) take their first overnight trip to Miami (of Ohio) University (2-1-0). Miami finished the season ranked 19th last season and Oakland looks to avenge the early season sweep from the Redhawks last year.
Miami comes off a 2-1 weekend from the Davenport showcase which saw the Redhawks playing some competitive competition in Grand Valley State (MCHC West), Davenport (MCHC West), and Saginaw Valley State University (MCHC East). Miami returns leading producers in Jack Mckenna (32 points), JT McDonald (28), and Nolan Feyler (27) for the 2023-2024 campaign. Between the pipes sees Danny Mitchell (GAA of 4.06) returning for the Redhawks who played in both games against the Golden Grizzlies last season. The Grizzlies dropped those games at Goggin Ice Arena last season by scores of 5-3 and 6-5 while outshooting Miami in both of those contests. 1st-year head coach James Spaulding takes over for the Redhawks this season.
Coach Stirling and his staff are 1-3-0 against Miami all-time in just their third series competing against each other. Game time for the Friday night game is 8:40 PM at Goggin Ice Arena with an afternoon contest beginning at 3:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
