Week 13 Review (Ferris State)
The Oakland University Golden Grizzlies second half of the season began last weekend against Ferris State University. The cross-conference series featured a Ferris State team that had struggled coming into the weekend. Coach Stirling and his staff were 5-4-0-1 going into the weekend which saw Friday night at Buffalo Wild Wings Arena and Saturday at Ferris State’s rink on campus.
In the first game of the series, the Golden Grizzlies played a complete game and saw the team get out to an early 6-0 lead after the first period. As the game continued, the Grizzlies would continue to take advantage throughout the remainder of the game as the game led to a 15-1 victory on Friday night. Leading in the scoring for the Grizzlies was senior Tommy Davis who had a seven-point night. Ethan Ring, Danny Fletcher and Shane Arbour all scored multiple goals in the contest which saw every forward have a point in the contest. In goal, Caleb Godlewski made 16 saves in the contest and collected his seventh win of the season. Oakland outshot Ferris State 83-17.
On Saturday, the Golden Grizzlies continued their winning ways as the team traveled to Ferris State in the snow to take on the ClubDawgs. The team would put together a different performance in game two of the series which saw the Golden Grizzlies win 7-1. The Grizzlies would jump out to a 3-1 lead after the first period with goals coming from Shane Arbour (2) and Ashtin Fertik. The team would see four more goals throughout the remainder of the game. Those four were contributed by Austin Fertik, Arbour (3rd of the game), Jack Abbo and Reiss Williams. In goal, Max Pierce made 17 saves in the game and grabbed his 10th win of the season. The Grizzlies would outshoot the Dawgs 73-18 in the contest.
Week 14 Preview (#44 University of Michigan)
The Golden Grizzlies’ season continues this upcoming weekend as the team takes on MCHC-East opponent #44 University of Michigan. Michigan comes i,n splitting last weekend with #25 Michigan State. As always, the Wolverines tend to play Oakland to tight matchups and consistently have been one of the most structured teams in recent years. The teams will play at Birmingham on Friday night and then will return to the Arctic Edge of Canton in Canton for a Saturday afternoon game. Going into the series, coach Stirling and his staff are 5-9-1 against Michigan all-time, including an 8-1 and 9-2 victory last season. The Wolverines are led by returning head coach Jake Howard.
Looking at U of M: The Wolverines have many familiar names on their roster as they are local players, and the teams are very familiar with each other. Leading the way for the Wolverines are returning forward #14 Connor Chi, who has 15 points in 13 games played so far, and #19 Zach Mohammed, who has 10 points. The Wolverines are last in the MCHC – East in penalty minutes with a minimal 119 minutes over the 15 games. In goal for the Wolverines, newcomer Paul Baker leads the way with a 7-0-0 record and a 1.71 GAA. Below are their numbers through the early portion of the season for all the goalies:

Other News and Notes
The fourth ranking period of the season was announced before winter break via social media and the ACHA website. The Golden Grizzlies moved down to #5 in the country after the split with GVSU. The fifth ranking period will include all games played through 1/18/2026, which will be all results, including the Ferris State series. The rankings will continue throughout the season on a bi-weekly basis until the final ranking period in February. The top 16 teams with some automatic bids for league winners will make the tournament, which is hosted in St. Louis this season.
