Week 1 Preview (M2 Schoolcraft)
The regular season begins this Saturday at Farmington Hills Ice Arena with a preseason game against Men’s Division 2 Schoolcraft College Ocelots. The Ocelots played in their first season last year and finished in the top 10 of the D2 Central Region. Current Golden Grizzlies Head Coach Matt Stirling and his staff have not had the chance to play Schoolcraft. Game time for the Saturday night game is 5:15 PM at Farmington Hills Ice Arena.
Looking at Schoolcraft: The Ocelots are led by head coach Dan Phelps. Phelps, who revitalized the Schoolcraft program, is assisted by former Oakland University Division III head coach Troy Barron, who currently leads the Golden Grizzlies program with 179 career wins at Oakland. In the first weekend of the season, the Ocelots took on Men’s Division I Toledo Rockets. The Ocelots won those two games convincingly by final scores of 7-3 and 8-2. Up front for the Ocelots are leading scorers Owen McGowan and Landon West, who each lead the team with 4 points from the opening weekend. Supporting those players are forwards Logan Tripp and Dustin Fretter, who also were able to amass 4 points in the opening weekend. In goal, goaltenders Logan Brown and Leo Tykoski split time during the opening weekend for the Ocelots.
Other News and Notes
The first ranking period of the season will be announced on 10/31 via social media and the ACHA website. The Golden Grizzlies ended last season ranked 3rd in the country. This will include all games through 10/26/2025. The rankings will continue throughout the season on a bi-weekly basis until the final ranking period in February. The top 16 teams with some automatic bids for league winners will make the tournament which is hosted in St. Louis this season.
